# EU ETS (/docs/regulations/eu-ets)

Ships of **5000 gross tonnage and above** have to report emissions and surrender EU allowances in proportion to the emitted greenhouse gasses.

Emission+ calculates exactly how many allowances you need.

## What You Get [#what-you-get]

Emission+ continuously calculates the amount of EUAs required for your ship.

You don't need to worry about any of the following:

* ### Emission Types [#emission-types]
  We automatically determine the correct fuel- and consumer types, including the corresponding emission and slip factors.
* ### Fuel Blends [#fuel-blends]
  You report a blend, and we automatically split it into its constituent fuels.
* ### Biofuels [#biofuels]
  Any portion of a fuel covered by a reported **Proof of Sustainability** is automatically deducted.
* ### Voyage Types [#voyage-types]
  Emission+ can determine what kind of voyage your ship is on based on your reporting data, including 50% voyages and Transshipment Port exceptions.

## Regulation Specifics [#regulation-specifics]

The overview of the EU ETS regulation can be found at [EU Emissions Trading System - Summary](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/EN/legal-content/summary/eu-emissions-trading-system.html).

The original Regulation from 2003 is available here:

* [EU Directive 2003 establishing a system for GHG emissions allowance trading](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A02003L0087-20240301)
* The relevant items for maritime transports and therefore E+ should be available in [Chapter IV](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A02003L0087-20240301#cpt_IV)

The Specifics for ETS have been updated in 2015 and later should be available at these locations:
